Every town has a claim to fame. It may be a famous person who once lived there or a memorable event. Here in Holbrook we have The Pony Express. The Pony Express was only in practice for 6 or 8 months but it was a jumping off point for long distance communication. Holbrook's Pony Express company name was The Hashknife Pony Express Company. Every year in Febuary, the Hashknife Company runs mail from Holbrook to Scottsdale just like they used to do over 100 years ago. Before the run kids from all three elementary schools write letters and then those letters are collected. The morning of the run all the men riding horses to deliver the mail are sworn in as offical mail carriers. Then the race is on! I've seen this happen every years since we've moved here but this is the first time I've actually gotten pictures. You can see the riders on the side of the road all the way to Scottsdale which is around 200 miles away.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-1772222575683084352012-06-29T22:18:00.000-07:002012-06-29T22:37:32.369-07:00Kwynn is 4!!

Wow how time flies! My little red head has finally turned 4. If you ask her, she has been waiting forever to turn 4. Kwynn thinks she is so mature now that she is one year older. She is such a sweet little girl. Some of her favorite things are playing with Lily and Aubrey, the show Go Diego Go, baby animals and playing pretend outside. Kwynn also has some of the cutiest ways of saying things. She says Leggy Bug instead of Lady Bug and Twin instead of Kwynn. Sucking her thumb is the one bad habit she has but I don't think she is quite as ready as I am to kick it. Kwynn has the most beautiful smile that crinkles up her eyes and takes up her whole face. She is also the biggest snuggler I have ever met!! She will sit right next to me and rub her feet on my legs, try to wedge herself under my arm and reach up and rub my earlob when she is watching T.V. Another talent that Kwynn has is the ability to sleep just about anywhere. So my darling girl, Happy Birthday!Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-2980329311852200422012-06-29T21:47:00.002-07:002012-06-29T21:47:55.232-07:00Garrison turns 12! On April 23 Garrison turned 12 and I still can't believe my little boy is that old now. I think he had a good birthday. It was Star Wars and Transformers themed (ofcourse) and the presents followed suite. I know his cake looks pink but I was actually going for a red. Garrison being the outstanding kid that he is, didn't mind too much. But the best present he recieved was the priesthood. That was a special occation not only for me but for Dwayne as well. He was the one that gave the priestood power to Garrison. What a great blessing that was. The first time Garrison passed the sacrament I could tell he was very nervous but he kept his hands still and went right wear he was supposed to. I'm so very proud of my exceptional son.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-63801517259411103562012-03-22T15:50:00.001-07:002012-03-22T15:50:13.964-07:00Mesa Temple Visit

While we were down in Mesa for Dwayne's birthday and the Kid History premier, we also visited the Mesa Temple. They were setting up for the Easter Pagent that the temple preformes every year so we got to see the stage for that. We also walked through the visitors center and the temple grounds. The kids liked seeing all the flowers and running their hand through all the fountains. The little girls' favorite thing was rolling in all the grass. Garrison played a good trick on us. In the forier he turned, pointed and said " Isn't that Porter!" I knew that Porter had moved to Idaho but I look all around anyway. "Where?" I asked "Just kidding, gotcha Mom!" This year Dwayne's birthday was on the same day that Kid History premiered their new episode. We had planned to get tickets, but found that they sold out quickly. Dwayne was really disappointed. So when I found out two weeks later that they were setting up two showings, I got tickets as fast as I could and surprised him with them. He did his happy dance. The kids were over the moon about it was well. They started a count down for our Mesa trip and talked about what they would do and who they most wanted to see. When they found out we were taking them out of school on Friday, they thought the day couldn't get better! We did have lots of fun. The kids were well behaved and happy the whole way there. Denyce, Garrison, Dwayne and myself had a great debate on a Disney Deadliest Warrior. I still don't know who would win between Gaston and Clayton. We checked into out hotel and got settled. The kids wanted to go into the outside pool even thought it was only 68 degrees. They didn't stay long in the water. Then it was time to go to the Kid History Episode 8 premier. We made sure we got there early so we could meet all of our favorite actors. Lily really wanted to meet Brett and I really wanted to meet Richard(hottie hot hottie!) They were so nice! They signed our tickets, DVD and Garrison's hat. The best part was when someone gave Brett a Big Trak. He was very excited because both Big Trak's that he got were run over by cars. Now he got to keep one. That makes more sense if you watch the Christmas episode.Episode 8 was great but Dwayne and I agreed we would have to watch it again because everyone was laughing and we missed some dialog. By the end of the day Aubrey, Kwynn and Lily were tired so we stopped by Bashes and got dinner and a birthday cake for Dwayne. While we ate we watched our Kid History DVD and relaxed. I think it was one of the best birthdays for Dwayne and the kids too!Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-89404871296737412472012-03-22T10:33:00.001-07:002012-03-22T10:33:34.385-07:00Aubrey's Birthday

As the first birthday of the year, everyone was excited about Aubrey's birthday. It was a good thing too because she had no idea what was going on. Oh well she's only 2. Picking out a cake consisted of pointing to a white or brown cake box and doing the same for the icing. Very easy for me! The cupcake idea was mine. I like doing that for the smaller kids because it's easier for them to handle and for them to smear all over everything! I don't even mind cleaning it up. Bree got some little animals to go with her one big present which was an animal zoo. The funny thing was, everyone and I do mean everyone from 13yr old Denyce to Kwynn were so eager to "help" Bree play with it that they ended up pushing her out of the way. Poor thing. I don't think she got to really play with it by herself until the next day. Oh the trials of being the youngest.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-89806837355862755852012-03-04T19:55:00.001-08:002012-03-04T19:55:18.758-08:00You do good work.My wife does a lot of stuff and sometimes I know she thinks it is just stuff, but she is wrong. Not only is she a great mother, but she is the primary chorister in our ward and she does a great job.
This last weekend was my birthday and we went down to Mesa for a premiere of Kid History. Since we were in Mesa I thought we would take the kids to the Mesa Temple visitors center Saturday morning.
In the center there is a room that has the life of Jesus in pictures. Mason walked around to each picture and told Kreslie what everyone of them was about. He also preceeded to tell her that he was going to be resserected after he dies. I was amazed. He is actually picking up what he is being taught.
On the way home we singing a primary song in the car and Mason remembered every word. Today in church I was watching Mason in primary and he again knew every word to every song. Good Job Mason and good job Kreslie. You make a huge difference in the lives of our children.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-23232824833621488822012-02-11T21:28:00.000-08:002012-02-11T21:28:46.398-08:00Aubrey turns 2

Happy Birthday to sweet little Aubrey. She is everyones favorite and a precious girl. This has been a great year for her. She is talking in sentences (which I love) running and keeping up with her older sisters and having a blast playing with them. Dwayne's favorite moment was a toss up between her first "I love you Daddy" and learning to say "Star Wars!" My favorite thing is that she has my eyes. She likes to talk on her toy phone to grandma, push her baby doll in her stroller, dancing to music, watching Dora the Exploring, helping me wash dishes and sucking her thumb while twirling her hair. I have to give her a ponytail in her hair so she can twist it. Her nickname is Monkey and she will repond to it. She loves monkeys and I am always looking for shirts or stuffed animals of the same. We all love our lovely girl. She completes our family.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-64638470514928034442012-02-11T21:03:00.000-08:002012-02-11T21:03:40.131-08:00Mason's First Basketball GameToday was Mason's first ever basketball game. Both Dwayne and I were nervous to let Mason sign up for basketball in the first place. I always have conflicting emotions whenever Mason wants to try something new. I want him to experience new things and to try things he has never done before but with his Autism I never know how others will react to HIM. Will they understand that he claps and hums and he can't help it. Will they realize that he hears and absorbs everything around him so he can't focus on everything you say so you will have to repeat yourself many times. Will they see the quirky sense of humor he has and see just how smart he is and how much he wants to do well. Will they help him learn, not brush him a side. So when he came home with the sign up paper I said "I don't know Mason." He looked my straight in the eye and said "Mom, I can do it." I signed the paper and said a prayer.

He played more than I thought he would. I thought his coach would put him in for the requisite time that every kid has to play and then bench him. But he played a lot. Mason had a hard time with the yelling and echo in the gym. I think it made concentrating on they ball difficult but every time someone yelled "Mason! Look at the ball" he focused. We need to work on passing the ball because his teammates tried passing him the ball but he flinched and dropped it. But he ran well and followed his team back and forth on the court. My favorite part of the game was what his teammates and coach did for him. The coach told the kids on the court to make a wall, the ball was passed to Mason, he took a shot and he MADE IT! My son made one basket and I couldn't be prouder. As I often remind myself with Mason...baby steps. So thank you Dr. Koerprich for understanding.
She won last year and was hoping to do win again this year. Unfortunately she came in fourth. But she still qualified to go to the county spelling bee on Feb 15th in Snowflake which is what she really wanted. She is determined to do better this year than she did last. No matter what she does I am still super proud of her. I am NOT a speller. If fact I will use spell check when I am done with this post and I will be glad I did. Yup, I spelled something wrong (sigh)Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-47377810887953728712012-02-11T20:13:00.000-08:002012-02-11T20:13:09.953-08:00Lily's New Goal

The high school cheerleaders put on a fundraiser where they coached a bunch of little kids on cheering. Then they performed at a basket ball game half time. I asked Lily if she wanted to do it thinking that she wouldn't. She surprised me by saying yes. Lily is not very outgoing and a little shy with new people and new opportunities. So I was proud that she would try. She had a fun time and performed well at the game. She even smiled. Now she says she wants to be a cheerleader and a ballerina. First, Christmas was on a Sunday. I don't remember having a Christmas on this day before. Luckily for us we had church at 1:00 so Christmas morning wasn't any different. Although we only had an hour of church, not only were my kids tired but everyone else's were as well. The primary sang 5 songs for the Christmas program and I had 3 kids fall asleep in their chairs on the stand! It was very amusing.
Second, every kid got a present from Santa and P.J's from us the night before but all the other presents were homemade. I really enjoyed making scarves, hand warmers, white boards and with Denyces' help quiet books for the three little girls. Each kid also precipitated in Secret Sibling. We started this in our family last year. You pick a sibling's name and make a homemade gift. We had so much fun last year and it is what inspired the homemade theme this year. Garrison made Denyce a wall hanging with her initials, Kwynn gave Lily a garden snow globe, Mason made a pillow for Garrison, Lily had Kwynn and made her a match game, Aubrey made Mason a big Jenga set and Denyce made a box for Aubrey that was filled with musical instruments. My favorite gift was from Dwayne and the kids. They took my 12 favorite pictures that I've taken and put them together in a calender. It looks great! The boys favorite gift had to be the bottle rocket launchers that Dwayne made them. We all had fun working the pump and watching the 2 liter bottles rocket into the sky.
As you can see from the pictures, it was still dark outside when we got up because it was at 5:30 in the morning! Normally we make the kids wait until 6:00 but for some reason we let it go this year. Maybe we were all excited for Christmas this year. After opening presents we had our traditional cinnamon rolls for breakfast and watched A Christmas Story. Garrison found it real funny this year. Hopefully memories were made and everyone had a great Christmas. My kids are already looking forward to next year!Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-73823842519117655842011-12-07T14:32:00.001-08:002011-12-07T14:59:10.887-08:00Snow Day!

It snowed..a lot! We have lived here for 8 years and I have never seen this much snow before. School was canceled, nobody in town had electricity and we were so unprepared my kids didn't even have gloves. We had to wait until that afternoon when the power was back on to pick some up. But we had so much fun that day. Our neighbors down the street the (new) Hatch's brought out their horses and towed everyone up and down the street on a sled. The Hall's were there too which prompted a big snow ball fight. My kids stayed out as long as they could and they weren't the only ones. Driving through town you could see kids everywhere building snowmen, making snow angels and at Hunt park some very resilient children made a huge snow duck in the field. Since Dwayne was home he got to help us put up outside Christmas lights. It has been a long time since he has done this because he is usually at wrestling finals. Garrison and Lily were helping him put up the lights on the fence and I need to know what kind of end he had at the end of the string. I asked and he reply ed that he had a male end. "A male end? Dad what does that mean?" Lily asked. Garrison answered "Don't worry Lily, you'll find out when your older. But its not as exciting as you think it is." Oh how that kid makes me laugh! We built our own snowman and colored him with food coloring. The kids loved that part. To top off the the weekend we also put up our Christmas tree. This year we are trying something new. My sister found a Yoda tree topper and was kind enough to send it to us. We bought Star Wars good and bad guys colored ornaments to go with the theme. Everyone agrees that the coolest thing is that Yoda's light saber glows. Nothing say holiday cheer like a scowling Yoda. We love it anyway!

Every year Halloween is a stressful yet fun time for me. It's stressful because Dwayne coaches wrestling so he isn't there to help with getting kids ready. Dwayne is my right hand man and my biggest helper, so when he isn't there I miss him. With six kids we have to work as a team just to survive and we work really well together. What he does help with before hand is the construction and artistic creation of many of our kids costumes. Garrison's especially. He has a very big imagination and his Halloween costume wish list is mind blowing. Last year he was a hammer head shark. Yeah I know..wow. Denyce is just as bad. She was a Storm Trooper from Star Wars and her costume was homemade.I am so glad my husband is an art teacher. There is no way we could pull off all these creative costumes without him. This year though we had an easier time. Joann's Fabric had a sale on butterfly wings that all the girls wanted so they put them on whatever they chose and we went with that. Mason was a ninja (vanish) which again was easy because we already had that costume. Garrison had to have an original costume...again. When you put together two vacuum hoses, plaster, a toolbox and a homemade sword you get a phantom assassin. Who knew. I think the highlight was Bree's costume. We all thought it was cool that she was a monkey because that's her nickname. Boy she loves that costume and slept in it the next night. She was so cute. This year we did actual trick or treating door to door for the first time. Normally we have a trunk or treat where a bunch of cars park in a parking lot and the kids go to each car for treats instead of a house. It's easier and much faster. But this year it was cancelled. I think the kids still had fun though. I put the back seat of our suburban down and let all the kids pile in back there as we went street to street. The kids and I also picked up the Hall family. It was a lot of fun with all my kids plus Lauryn and Jillyan. I loved having a friend to walk and talk with too.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-33505822399371486382011-10-24T21:55:00.000-07:002011-10-24T21:55:12.006-07:00Playing Hooky

This last Sunday instead of going to church like a good little girl, I ditched. If that wasn't bad enough, I took my kids with me. We packed a lunch, piled into the car and drove to Snowflake to take pictures of fall colors (what I wanted to do) and go play at the park (what the kids wanted to do). It was a win win situation for all. Unfortunately Dwayne declined to go because he was feeling under the weather. The kids and I also stopped by the Snowflake Temple to look at the grounds which include three beautiful fountains. On the way home I told the kids what a 'Chinese Firedrill' was and they insisted on acting on their new found knowledge. As we were racing around the suburban Garrison yelled "whats the point of this again?" and Denyce answered back " there is no point..it's just fun!" I'm glad someone got it.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-19413651819981561102011-10-23T16:20:00.000-07:002011-10-23T16:20:42.276-07:00Homecoming 2011

It was fun for the kids at the junior high and high school to dress up in sub-theme everyday, which leads up to the homecoming parade and football game on Friday. The dance is on the next night. As a family we had fun playing dress up and getting into school spirit. On "rock day" Denyce put pink streaks in her hair and Dwayne gave her pen tattoos on her arm. On Friday Kwynn, Bree and I meet Dwayne in the Safeway parking lot to watch the homecoming parade. It was there that I gave Dwayne flowers with a paper note asking him to the dance. I said it was a very important decision and he should think about it for the day before he answered. I think I made his day. This is a unexpected upside I never considered when I married him. I can go to homecoming and prom any year I want. If I didn't have the best time, I just have to wait until next year. Plus I always have an awesome date that is a lot of fun! This makes up for not going in high school. So hear is my advice ladies...find yourself a educator for a hubby. The benefits are worth it! I had fun helping Dwayne with his look, he even let me put eyeliner and fake earings on. My favorite reaction from his students was this...."Hey Mr. Hawk. Looking good!" "Thanks Tyrell." Then there was a pause (5..4..3..2..1) "Mr. Hawk...are you wearing EYELINER!"Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-53960878365187128962011-10-03T20:43:00.000-07:002011-10-03T20:43:38.182-07:00I go walk'n After watching conference on Sunday and having an early dinner, my kids needed to get out of the house before I did bodily harm to them. So we went on a little walk to the Rock Clubhouse. The Rock Clubhouse is a little plateau of rocks near our house that our kids love to go to.
We have many stories about the clubhouse. Blackjack got wedged between two rocks, Mason fell off the side one Fourth of July night (luckily another rock stopped him before he fell too far) and it features in many of the kids outside imagination games. One of my favorite features is the rock toilet. Yes a toilet. And I'm sorry to say it's been used. I was up there with all the kids one day when Kwynn looked at me and told me she had to GO! I asked her if she could hold it until we got home but was told "no way..I gotta go now!" Garrison then informed me that there was a bathroom if she wanted to use it. Once I was directed to the rock toilet, I asked Kwynn if she wanted to use it. "Sure" she said like she peed outside everyday. So I helped her and the rock commode was used for the first time. Everyone was of course impressed.
Not only was every member of my family in band but my mom gave piano lesson and my dad gave clarinet lessons as well. I remember once Dwayne and I were watching a movie and the fictional family gathered together around the piano and burst into song. Dwayne looked at me and asked "who does that!?" I then told him we did...all the time. He thought we were a little weird because our family did and I thought his family was a little weird because they didn't. Needless to say I have brought that musical importance into my own home. It started when my kids were babies. Instead of one song or lullaby that I would hum (I don't sing..not a talent of mine) to all my kids, each baby ended up with their own song. This makes sense to me because each child is different. All my kids know which song is theirs.
It took me the longest to find Denyce's song. She wasn't happy with anything I could come up with and I was very frustrated trying to find a song that would calm her down. Finally I struck gold. For some reason The Wise Man and The Foolish Man from The Childrens Songbook hummed really slow worked for her. She is still that way. Totally unique.
Garrison's song is "Stay Awake" from the movie Mary Poppins. As a baby Garrison was very mellow and easy to please. I only had to hum this song once and his eyes would get droopy and he would nod off to sleep. He is like that now. Once he calms down, he will sleep like the dead.
Mason was one of my kids that needed all the help he can get to calm down and get to sleep. He needs three different pills to go to sleep at night and it still takes him an hour to do so. It doesn't surprise me that he needed the ultimate in calming songs. In my opinion that is Alisson Krauss. I would kneel at the side of Mason's bed humming "Down to the River to Pray" over and over again while rubbing his back and legs. This process would sometimes take me and hour. It's a good thing I love this song and didn't mind the repetition.
As a baby, Lily loved anything with movement in song. Her song is "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley. I would sway and dance while humming this song and she enjoyed the back and forth motion this song created. If I'm every listening to my Bob Marley CD, she gets excited when her song comes on.
I was going through a Jane Austin faze when Kwynn was a baby. Because of this her song comes from Sense and Sensibility. Its the song that Kate Winslet character is playing when Col. Brandon first sees her. I don't know exactly what it is called. I guess I should find out because if everyone else knows what their song is, she will too. Kwynn loved the three count feel to this song, especially when I would rock her in our rocking chair.
It's no surprise with Aubrey being the youngest I don't watch what I want but what Kwynn and Lily want to watch. When Aubrey was a infant, Kwynn loved Cinderella. So Aubrey loves the song "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes". It would make me relax which would make her relax. Plus Kwynn would dance to it too.
My girls love to dance in the living room and everyone will sing along to songs on the radio. Garrison and Mason have excellent memories and learn lyrics quickly. Part of Mason's stemming is humming. Not only does he hum a variety of different songs but he responds well to music too. As we were watching conference today, the only time he was still was when the choir was singing. Being still for Mason is rare and he only does it when people are singing. But he doesn't like my taste in music. I'll have to work on that.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-88736403126923928592011-09-26T22:06:00.000-07:002011-09-26T22:06:49.791-07:00Why Me?With two boys that have Autisim, I am often faced with challenges not only daily but long term. One such challenge is reading. It comes up at every parent teacher conference and it is going to be something both Garrison and Mason will struggle with long term. Garrison has issues with problem solving. If he reads a story about a day in a dogs life and is then asked "if you were a dog, how would you do...ect" Garrison could not answer the question. The reason, he's not a dog. He can't think in an imaginitive way like that. He see's life in black and white. In one way this is very good for me because he is a rule follower and doesn't like to get in trouble at all. The negitive is that he thinks everyone else should be on the black and white path. He gets very upset when others break rules, especially when they get away with it. But reading comprehension is a skill that he doen't have and will have to continually work on. His fifth grade teacher found an amazing way around this by simply asking him if he was a tiny person on that dog shoulder, what would he see or tell the dog to do. Garrison can figure that easier than putting himself in someone elses shoes.
Mason has reading comprehension problems too but in different and more extreme way. Mason's teacher told me that Mason can read 78 words a minute. That's fast for an 8 year old. But when asked to go back and remember the words he just read, he could get 17 of them. 17! I have to say I was floored. Basically Mason is an in one ear out the other reader. After discussing this little hiccup, his teacher and I came up with a plan that we hope will work. But it is hard and alittle frustrating for both of us. Instead of Mason going and reading by himself, I now have to sit with him and quiz him after just two pages of the book. The first book we tried this new process on was "The Story of Ferdinand the Bull." The first two pages said where the story took place and what the name of the bull is. I asked Mason the same two questions. He looked at me and said he didn't know. I wanted to hit my forehead on the table... repeatedly! Now we barely finish a shorter book because we have to stop so often and sometimes go back so he can re-read and answer the question I asked him. He gets very frustrated with me because I have to push him so hard. The harder I push the louder his humming gets and the harder he hits his head. It hurts me that I'm putting him through this every day but I know it's helping a little. But after everyday helping him read and listening and helping Garrison with his emotional ups and downs, I feel exausted. Then Garrison will come through the dining room with Bree on his back, making her scream with laughter and Mason reminds me that his name today is Pizza Server and I'm invited to his beauty parlor. I know I was ment to have these two wonderful boys in my life and I'm learning from them everyday. And I smile.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-64098323990707091532011-09-21T20:13:00.000-07:002011-09-21T20:30:55.240-07:00Ask and ye shall receive
I've been asked what photos I won ribbons for at this years fair. I'm the Cubmaster and I'm the chorister for the primary. The primary chorister is in charge of teaching the kids new songs, trying to get 11-12 year old boys to sing period and have a positive attitude while doing it! I do have fun but sometimes things in primary that make every bad singing day worth it.
The new song I was teaching was "I feel my Savior's love". I was trying to explain the words in the song were about how you would feel knowing that God loves you. I asked the kids if any of them had put a blanket in the drying for a couple of minutes on a cold winter day and then wrapped it around their bodies. "That's how Gods loves feels, like a warm blanket surrounding you." Man, I thought it was a great example but then Garrison had to one up me. " Hey Mom, it's like when you've had to go to the bathroom really bad and you've held it for a really really long time and then you get to go and it feels real good...right?" I was so stunned I couldn't say anything for a second or two. Next to the pony rides was a petting zoo that everyone went in. In the pen were some familiar animals for my kids such has bunnies and chickens but there were some animals that were new. The most memorable was a very aggressive donkey that was apparently very hungry. This donkey would follow you around to see if you had food in your hand and then come back later to see if you had gotten more! He really freaked out Kwynn and Bree. I know this because Kwynn told me "Mom, that thing frweeks me out!" Garrison, Mason and Lily attended their first rodeo. Lily loved the girls on the horses (see..horse crazy) Garrison liked the bull riding and Mason thought the song they played when someone got to do a re-ride was funny. He sang it the whole way home. I'm glad we don't live to far away! Dwayne won 1st place ribbons for some of his artwork. I also won for my photos. I enjoyed walking around and looking at others photos. It gives me great ideas! Denyce entered the county pageant. Dwayne thought we looked pretty funny practicing walking, pausing and turning in heals in our dinning room but he's never had to do that in front of alot of people and still look graceful. She got 3rd place and on the way home, she told me she wants to enter the Junior High spelling bee. She likes to stay busy which unfortunately makes me busy too! Oh well.

I know exactly who she got this saying from. Garrison says it when one on his little sisters unknowingly kicks or steps on his...well you know. I've been hoping this little expression would go away if I didn't call any attention to it but alas it hasn't. Today I hear Kwynn come racing around the corner of the hallway and crash into the wall. After she picked herself up, she came to me and once again said "Mom, I hurt my nuts AGAIN!" My mom spidy sense finally kicked in and I came up with the all important question.."Kwynn, where are your nuts?" Looking at me like I had lost my mind, she put her hand on her hip and pointed to her head. "My nuts are in my head mom." Of course, where else would they be.Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-82567061525988828412011-09-05T22:45:00.000-07:002011-09-05T22:45:43.237-07:00Labor Day Sept. 5

It's only a 20 minute drive from Holbrook. We have been to the Painted Desert before which is part of the Forrest but we have never been through the whole thing. It took us about 3 and a half hours but I think we all had fun. We walked around quite a bit so it was good exercise with the added benefit of making the kids exhausted. They went to sleep tonight real early. We saw a lot of petrified wood of course but we also saw petroglyphs, dinosaur bones, a pueblo, a kiva and an awesome view of the Painted Desert. Petroglyphs are pictures that people made long ago(600-800 years ago) by chipping away darker rock to show the lighter rock beneath. They made pictures of lizards, snakes, birds, plants and even people. Close to the petroglyphs was the pueblo. A pueblo is like a small city. It was shaped like a rectangle with the living quarters making the outside walls and all the activities happening on the inside. There they would weave, grind corn and other grains and basically have everyday living. A kiva was a religious building that was actually dug into the ground. You would climb down a latter into it. All in all we had a fun day and took lots of pictures. I think I made Denyce and Garrisons day by letting them take pictures on my camera. My camera is called my 7th child so all the kids know how much I love it. I was really proud that they took some pretty darn good pictures. Garrison even said maybe he would learn "photology" like me. Silly kid ;)Kreslie Hawkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07252081235326923439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051056307377186447.post-10863751267770408352011-09-04T20:54:00.000-07:002011-09-04T20:54:54.352-07:00Funny kids

I took Mason and Garrison to their doctors appointment at the Community Counciling Center here in town.
